Bilingual School in Paris 7th
Bilingual Double Curriculum
At our bilingual school in Paris 7th, we teach a double curriculum, following the French Programme de l’Education Nationale and the English National Curriculum. By respecting the expectations of the French National Education System in terms of a common base of knowledge for children in preschool and kindergarten, La Nouvelle École is committed to enabling children to integrate into any type of school system when they enter primary school: whether it be a public school, private school or an international school, in France or abroad.
We provide a rich learning environment with opportunities for children to play, explore and create. We seek to harness the natural curiosity of children by encouraging child-initiated learning and open-ended play. These aspects are supported by the best classroom equipment and materials for learning by investigation.
Our Pedagogical Approach
The school's pedagogical project is based on the principles of the Montessori method and the Reggio Emilia approach, with activities carefully selected by a qualified and passionate bilingual teaching team. Research strongly backs the use of play as the best form of learning. Through experimentation a child can understand why certain things happen, i.e. mixing blue and yellow paint to make green or writing the letter b in sand can help letter formation and gross motor skills early on. Our learning approach will encourage this natural curiosity and sense of exploration with clear, purposeful play-based activities. La Nouvelle Ecole (bilingual school in Paris 7th) accepts 18 students maximum, in a multi-level class to provide personalised quality lessons while also taking into account the ability and rhythm of each child.
Montessori Method
In the Montessori method, each child is considered unique, with their own needs, interests and skills. Therefore, the Montessori educational program is designed to allow each child to progress at their own pace, rather than forcing them to follow a uniform curriculum. The organisation of spaces allows children to move freely and choose their activities, respecting young children's need for movement. Children are encouraged to move around and work at their own pace, in a flexible seating approach to learning.
Reggio Emilia Approach
The Reggio Emilia Approach is an alternative educational approach that emphasises learning through play, discovery, creativity and collaboration. It views children as capable individuals with the ability to construct their knowledge when provided with opportunities to engage in meaningful experiences. By fostering curiosity and a sense of wonder, this approach instils a lifelong love of learning and equips children with the confidence and skills needed for a seamless transition into school.
Stimulating Learning Environment
In both approaches - the environment is considered the third educator, alongside the teacher and the child. The belief is that if children are placed in a beautiful environment, with stimulating materials to work with, they will be motivated to explore and respect the environment.
Through these rich, stimulating environments, children develop foundational academic skills and learn to navigate relationships, problem-solve, and express themselves, cultivating a holistic educational experience that balances cognitive, social, and emotional development. By blending the principles of Reggio Emilia and Montessori with our pedagogical vision, we aim to provide children with a nurturing and inspiring foundation for their educational journey.
Creative Arts
At La Nouvelle École, the arts, such as painting, music, dance and drama, play a central role in learning. Children are encouraged to express themselves creatively and use different art forms to communicate their ideas. Music plays a significant role in nurturing a child’s development, developing important pre-literacy skills and supporting language acquisition.
Arts-based learning emphasises creativity, imagination, exploration, and active participation. Music and the arts add depth to fundamental concepts, reinforcing comprehension and memory. We encourage process over product - emphasizing the learning journey over the end product.
English Immersion
Total Immersion in French and English: A Strong Foundation for Bilingualism
At La Nouvelle École, all our students benefit from total immersion in both French and English. Research shows that the earlier the brain is exposed to a language during development, the easier it is to acquire. As brain networks become more specialised over time, learning a second language later can be more challenging than acquiring it early in life. To optimise this critical period, our bilingual team ensures children engage with both French and English from the earliest age. Learning time is equally divided between the two languages, fostering balanced bilingual development.
One language, one person
Linguists emphasise the importance of associating a specific adult with a particular language for effective second language acquisition. At our bilingual school in Paris 7th, this approach is central to our philosophy. Each teacher exclusively uses their native language throughout the day. Children quickly grasp this system, understanding which language to use with each adult.
For instance, an English-speaking teacher will always respond in English, even if a child speaks French. Similarly, the French-speaking teacher will respond in French, regardless of the language used by the child. This method avoids confusion and supports children in clearly identifying the structure and function of each language, setting them up for long-term bilingual success.
Nursery Section
La Nouvelle École offers a bilingual school section for 2-year-olds, providing a quality alternative to the crèche system. This stable and reassuring educational approach enables toddlers to gain in confidence and autonomy, easing their transition to Kindergarten. Here, children learn the basics of living together and the foundations of academic learning, as well as practising English daily from an early age. Places are available all year round, so children can be welcomed from the age of 2 in our bilingual school in Paris 7th.
Start early for success
Experimental research in educational neuroscience shows that the level of oral language in the Early Years Foundation Stage is the best predictor of academic success in primary school as well as the best predictor of a child’s progress in learning. Stimulating children’s oral language skills in the early grades is a significant advantage for their future learning in all areas (Literacy, Mathematics, Science, etc.).
Our nursery is a stimulating, dynamic setting where each child is unique and is encouraged to reach their full potential and develop with confidence and independence.
In our bilingual nursery, the day is structured around the needs of the child. The classroom is safe and welcoming and provides endless opportunities to explore and learn. Our fully qualified teachers are on hand to accompany and extend our nursery children on their learning journeys
